Yiyang was born in Japan in 1999 and was raised in Edmonton. He completed his B. Sc. in chemistry at the University of Alberta in June 2021, working in Dr. Fred West’s lab. There he worked on synthesizing antiviral Bisindole compounds, and on diverting the retro Diels-Alder reaction of cyclic allene cycloadducts with furan. Yiyang previously worked in the labs of Dr. Rylan Lundgren and Dr. Arthur Mar during his bachelor’s. Yiyang joined the Arndtsen group in July 2021 to work on photochemical carbonylations of alcohols using Palladium catalysts. Outside the lab, he enjoys playing soccer, running, and listening to podcasts.
